We are happy to inform you that from today we are part of the network of structures that host the 50,000 pilgrims who from 60 countries around the world walk this path every year. The Via Francigena del Sud is a route that in 45 stages covers the distance between Rome and Santa Maria di Leuca. We are in the last step, the one that connects Tricase to the Sanctuary of "Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae", the end of the path. The stage that crosses Tiggiano is classified as a "demanding" level, for this reason it is strategic to look for accommodation directly in the town and shorten the distance that separates you from the end. By clicking here you can find the details of the "Taverna Acquari" made available to pilgrims.

What to do and what to see in Tiggiano across the official itinerary?

Leaving the "Taverna Acquari" accommodation you will find yourself at the highest point of the town, the so-called Padula district. Continuing the path for 600 meters you will certainly notice an unusual shop, the place where the Italian character The King of Mortadella was born.
Over the years it has become a celebrity on social media and a regular stop for those visiting the lower Salento. He has created, among other things, the tastiest sandwiches in the area. Your packed lunch is served, try it!

Continuing for 500 meters you will find on your right the church of Sant'Ippazio, patron saint of Tiggiano and protector of male virility.
The church has some peculiarities, including being the only one in the Catholic religion to be named after Ippazio, a saint of oriental origins. The structure finds its maximum splendor on January 19, the day in which the saint is celebrated with great popular devotion!

Continuing for100 meters you will come across the seventeenth-century Palazzo Baronale, as well as the current town hall. Inside it is possible to observe the statue of the God Janus, the two-faced God who gives the town its name. Entering it is possible to visit the baronial orchard which leads to the wood, a real open-air museum of Mediterranean maquis.
