Today January 19, Tiggiano is celebrating the Patron Saint. The name may be new to many, proof of the fact that the church of Sant'Ippazio is the only one in the whole Catholic religion to be named after him.

The uniqueness derives from the foreign origin, Sant'Ippazio was born in Asia Minor (now Turkey) and his cult is widespread in the Byzantine church.
In addition to the uniqueness of the name, Sant'Ippazio is distinguished by being considered the protector of the male intimate parts and of the consequent virility. This arises from an event that occurred during his life, a kick suffered in the lower parts due to a dispute with the heretic Ario.

In conjunction with the Tiggianese patronal feast, the peasant New Year is celebrated. Historically it was the moment in which the new production season and the signing of agricultural contracts began.
In this period the "Pestanache" (or Pistanache) are also harvested: local sweet carrots, larger than the classic variety which allude to the male private parts.

Finally, perhaps the most important event of the festival: the erection of the banner! Also a clear allusion to male private parts.
After winning the pole donated to the saint, you can try to raise a 7-metre standard unbalanced at the tip. Successful erection is a sign of fertility!
If you want to witness all this, call us and book your apartment in Tiggiano.
